Prenatal Health

The best time to begin prenatal care is even before a woman becomes pregnant, ideally even before conception.

Naturopathic medicine is a great fit for women in the months before, during and after pregnancy. Dr. Esposito can provide natural and safe prenatal care in the following ways:

  • * prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy, including detoxification as needed
  • * help you deal with the many discomforts of pregnancy
  • * help you achieve your desired birth plan and labour
  • * help you and your baby recover during the postpartum period
  • * provide you with the latest information and research on prenatal health

Including preparation for a pregnancy, the program includes support throughout the various stages of pregnancy:

  • * During the first 4 to 6 weeks - dispelling common misconceptions; prenatal vitamins; and the ongoing role of naturopathy in pregnancy
  • * First trimester - addressing symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, indigestion, constipation, stress management, anxiety or sleeplessness
  • * Second trimester - support in key areas including optimal nutrition and exercise in pregnancy, stress management, iron levels and thyroid function
  • * Early third trimester - prevention of common 3rd trimester complications such as gestational diabetes and high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia)
  • * Late third trimester - group B strep (a vaginal bacteria) and treatment options; pain management in labor; post-date pregnancy (what to do if you go beyond your due date) and avoiding inductions; fatigue and back pain
  • * Postnatal care - nutrition, supplements, breast feeding resources (lactation consultant if needed), and naturopathic baby care (vaccine consultation, food introduction, immune system support, prevention of allergies)
