A Dangerous Health Myth: Have You Fallen Victim?
Health is more than just the absence of disease.
Think about that statement for a moment. Then think about your current perception of health. What are your health goals? Do you simply wish to be rid of your symptoms? Or do you wish to achieve optimal health, to thrive in your life?
The notion that you are healthy if you are not experiencing any symptoms is one of the most common and dangerous health myths.
Take a moment and reflect on your last visit with your health care provider...
- What was the goal of that visit?
- How long did the visit take?
- Do you feel that your concerns were addressed?
- Do you feel that the underlying causes for your concerns were addressed?
- Is the health care you are receiving simply about taking your symptoms away?
- And, finally, do you feel that you are thriving and at your optimal potential for health?
If you answered negatively to any of the above questions you may be frustrated with the state of your health and/or the care you are receiving. Even if you are symptom-free you may not completely feel "like yourself."
Perfect health (much like perfect anything) does not exist. No one can promise you perfect health (beware of those who do). However, optimal health - whatever optimal is for you - is achievable. And there is a big difference between living symptom-free and living with optimal health.
