Constitutional Hydrotherapy

Constitutional Hydrotherapy is an integral part of our treatment protocols at Algoma Natural Healing Clinic and one of the foundational therapies of naturopathic medicine. You"ve likely used some form of hydrotherapy before, like a cold compress for a sprained ankle or a hot water bottle for menstrual cramps.

Constitutional hydrotherapy is a special technique which greatly improves recovery from many illnesses, both acute and chronic. It can be used whenever you experience a fever or febrile illness, or to ward off illness that you feel coming on. It is strengthening and healing to the digestive system, helps to normalize circulation, soothes the nervous system, stimulates eliminative and detoxifying processes, and stimulates the vital force. It is a subtle, yet powerful treatment with no potential for harm if done by a qualified naturopathic physician.

Constitutional Hydrotherapy is one of the most effective therapies for stimulating the immune system and achieving total body detoxification. It has been used for years to detoxify heavy metal exposure, pesticide/herbicide toxicity, and the daily toxic buildup of improper diet and lifestyle.

The word "constitutional" refers to the whole-body effects of the therapy. Studies recently done at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine determined that constitutional hydrotherapy can raise a low basal body temperature, moderate low or high blood sugar, and moderate high or low blood pressure. Remarkably, an increase in white blood cell count by 10,000 more cells on average in circulation is seen within 2 to 8 hours after only 1 hydrotherapy. This is a rapid way to boost your immune function and fight any infection - even the antibiotic resistant bacteria.

This therapy utilizes alternating hot and cold towel applications to the chest and to the back with a series of sine wave currents. It is can be used for acute infections such as sinusitis, whooping cough, pneumonia as well as chronic conditions such as asthma, psoriasis, irritable bowel, Crohn"s disease, or arthritis.
